Assessing/Enhancing Your Impact Across the
Five Key Leadership Domains

Up, Down, Across, Outside, and Yourself
Most people are pretty good at managing one or two of these domains. But
rarely all of them. How about you?
If you can't work well with your boss and others
above you in the organization, how can you be properly recognized
for your results? So, how much of what you need do you actually get
from your boss? How solid is your relationship? Is there a mutual
trust in place to make difficult conversations less so? Are you
being sufficiently challenged and rewarded?
Anyone can lead A-caliber players, but how are you
with the B's and C's of your organization? Do your direct reports
truly respect you? Are they sufficiently engaged by what needs to be
done? Do they openly share what's really going on? Are they
providing you with regular and consistent value added? Can
you count on them when the going gets rough and the stakes are
particularly high?
How well do you play in the sandbox? Do you
effectively collaborate with your peers? How easy do you make it for
others to effectively collaborate with you? How powerful is your
influence when you don't have formal authority over the
people involved? Do others naturally look after what's important to
you?
How far does your influence flow? Do your vendor
contacts do their absolute best work for you? Are they sufficiently
able to engage their company and employees on your behalf? How well
do you know your vendor contacts and bosses ... and their
bosses? How effective are you at moving them to action?
In your heart of hearts, can you truly saying you're
currently doing the best work of your entire career? How often do
you get derailed or emotionally triggered by something someone
says...or doesn't say? What type of impact is your work really
having? Are you taking responsibility for your impact, whatever
it is? How about your personal brand? Is what you
think it is consistent with what how others would describe it? Are
you sure?!
