How to Reprimand Someone at Work
- Say it clearly -- "I'm finding the way you're handling this assignment unsatisfactory at this point in time."
- Provide the justification -- "As a result of you missing your Phase I deadline, everyone downstream must now revise their schedules to accommodate the delay."
- Articulate the implication -- "This not only unnecessarily complicates things, but it also jeopardizes our ability to complete this project on time/to budget."
- Pair it with some good news -- "Fortunately, you're working with some very talented people who are ready, willing, and able to help you however they can."
- Ask for compliance -- "So in this next phase, can I - can we all - count on you to step it up and not leave us hanging like this?"
- Thank you.
